Everyone at this point knows that the bridge and the skate park will be torn down sometime this year but not everyone knows why... 

The main reason is because it is falling apart and not safe to be under especially in conditions like these. Science can explain it better than us.

Deterioration of concrete from freeze thaw actions may occur when the concrete is critically saturated, which is when approximately 91% of its pores are filled with water. When water freezes to ice it occupies 9% more volume than that of water. If there is no space for this volume expansion in a porous, water containing material like concrete, freezing may cause distress in the concrete. Distress to critically saturated concrete from freezing and thawing will commence with the first freeze-thaw cycle and will continue throughout successive winter seasons resulting in repeated loss of concrete surface.

Regardless the bridge has been experiencing  this since it was built in 1936 and is very dangerous at this point. Large sections of concrete are falling from above every time the temp rises above freezing.

Please be warned and do not park your vehicle under the bridge or even go there at all. No one is responsible except yourself if something happens. You have been warned...

KHVT Fundraiser April 17, 2013!!!

In the efforts to raise money for the Peter Mathews Memorial skate garden KHVT has enlisted the help of Kickstarter.com to raise another $15,000 to add to the over $18,000 we already have!!!

If you have never heard of Kickstarter.com the way it works is you go to our Kickstarter campaign page online and make donations that you receive cool KHVT stuff in exchange for.
We have limited edition t-shirts and hats, limited edition Kino Kaiser KHVT Deck, stickers and even private sessions at the new park when its completed available!!!

We will be launching the campaign on April 17th at Atomic Cowboy with a party featuring entertainment from:
DJ Crucial and DJ Hal Greens

We will have Laptops available so you can get your donations in on the spot!

We also have tons of sponsors that are donating prizes for raffles and silent auction that night!!

Plus Atomic cowboy has agreed to give KHVT 10% of food and drink sales from 7pm-10pm so come out and bring the family for dinner or just come for drinks and to support St. Louis first sanctioned free public concrete skatepark!!!

Note that the garden features and pond is not necessarily going to be in there. A local gardening club is working on the garden desig now.

The bridge is especially crusty during these times of year... The bridge is from 1936 and has endured this long but barely... This is why they will be tearing it down within the next year and a half.

Freeze and thaw action causes chunks of concrete to fall from the roof sometimes. Be careful while skating down there or even better stay away till the low temps are done for the season. Definitely do not park your car under there if you value it...

Freeze-thaw action is when water seeps into a crack in a rock or concrete, as the temperature drops below freezing, the water freezes and expands causing the crack to enlarge. The ice then melts into water again as the temperature rises above 0 degrees C. This action is repeated until the rock or concrete breaks.
